Biography (The story of Himanes)
What do you get when you mix the old Ramones and the Boys with punky guitar riffs and add lots of melodies into it? And the sound you hear is very rich but at the same time, fresh. Yes, you're right, the band is called Himanes.
It was 1990 when four young guys from Haukivuori village, Finland were playing thrash metal. In the same year Ramones played at Kulttuuritalo and you can imagine what happened when a young thrash metal fan saw their gig. Yes, after the great experience there was no doubt about the style of music four young guys would play. They also decided to write songs in finnish.
Himanes plays finnish punkrock and the band takes most influences from the Ramones and the Boys. In addition you can also hear influences from The Clash and finnish bands Problems?, Ne Luumäet, Luonteri surf and Pojat.
In 1991 Himanes recorded their first demo at Welmu's studio in Vaasa and it was sold 200 copies. Very soon after the demo session Kråklund records invited Himanes to record for Pinnalla-compilation, which came out in 1992 and Himanes had five songs on it. The compilation was sold out quite soon after it's releasing. Himanes recorded their first own record "Kiva kun on mukavaa" also on Kråklund records. That mini-cd came out in 1993 and Kråklund sold every 550 copies out in a few years.
After Pinnalla and Kiva kun on mukavaa Himanes played good gigs with bands called Klamydia and Pojat. The band had written new songs at their rehearsal place Kyyveden saha, but they didn't release more material that time. The guys moved on to new towns and started off with new bands. Himanes had split up.
In 2004 Himanes returned to square one. They started gigging and making new songs again. First record of their second coming was called Mykkäkoulun päättäjäiset. That mini-cd came out in 2005 by Haukivuori-based label LJB Entertainment Ltd. The same year it was great honour for the band in being on 1-2-3-4! -compilation, which was released by Woimasointu records. And almost 17 years after those young guys decided to play punkrock, their debut album Seitsemäs aalto saw the light. It's also released by LJB Entertainment Ltd. And the best is yet to come. Their second album Retropunk is coming out 8th of July 2009! It's great mix of 77- punkrock, pop melodies, finnish rock and even hardcore punk. The band keeps on rockin' harder than ever.
